DryApPlus Problem

A Clear Dry Erase Films

12/1/07

some further explanation on 9/12.   Some of you have called and asked how could this happen.  My answer is 1. we only know of one film that stands up well to disinfectants.   2.  the easy part of making a film is putting the adhesive on it.  The adhesive applicator( a large very professional company with state of the art equipment has given us 4 lots (thousands of feet of material each run) of material that were un-useable.  We have now switched to a new adhesive applicator and expect all to be fine.    This type of problem a total surprise to us because we had 2,500 ft of ready to use film set for our laminator on 7/20 ready to do all your jobs and it was bad and we are now on the 5th run to get good material.   We were assured every run would be perfect and we still can not believe this happened.   If you want to call to discuss that is fine, Jen has not been trying to hide the problem but we really thought it would be resolved for sure at each attempt.   Al hutton  x 111

-08 update at 3 pm - new tack
We have decided that the only film we can use is the DaPlus due to its resistance to disinfectants.
We have talked to a new adhesive applier who will apply adhesive in a day or two and are working on getting him a 3,000 ft roll.   We hope to have roll to laminator by the 16th. coated by the 18th and to laminator by the 19th.  all goes well the week of the 22nd will be IT!

OH no!!!  - our 1,500 long roll of film has defective adhesive application again and is not useable. (discovered once we got into roll during application).   We are fervently persueing a new adhesive applicator to do job correctly.  Will advise progress on this page.   We have another film that we can use but it has not been in testing as long as the DaPlus and are not sure of its longer term performance.   I have a sample coming to me so see if defective adhesive can be used at all.

film has been inspected and approved to run. All skins will ship by Friday to the framer for framing and all the plastic framed boards will begin being filmed and framed Monday.  For those that want to order DA-Plus we will be placing a new order and can begin shipping that shortly.

8-29-08 update
We have tested a new adhesive and it looks like it will bond very evenly to the dry erase film creating a very optically clear and smooth surface.   We have also gone to 1 mil of adhesive coating.   We have 1500 ft of film at the coater ready to be coated and 4,000 feet on order to be run once 1500 ft is put in production.     Hope to have film to application laminator by sept 1 or 2

DaPlus film has been proven to be very resistant to hospital disinfectants.
however the boards without the film last fine if no disinfectants are used and will last 3-6 months even with heavy disinfectant cleaning.

We have currently had 3 large failed runs of DaPlus by the manufacturer that puts the pressure sensitive adhesive on it so we can bond it to the board. This has of course mad us look terrible to you and destroyed our faith in American Manufacturing. What can we do now based on the fact that it may be a month before we get perfect DaPlus in house.

1. you can wait till we get the film correctly made. estimate 3-5 weeks

2. we can apply the film as it is. You will see some very small bumps under the film that will not affect the dry erase but will be visible. If you accept this they will not be returnable for the bumps and we will not charge you for putting on the film. Pictures due Monday!

3. we will send you the boards without the film and deduct the film from your invoice. We then will send you the film for free within 2-3 months and at this time it is a easy matter to dry erase the board and have a person with window tinting experience install the film.
labor should be less than 10 minutes per board and can be done in the room on the wall.
besides sending you the free film we will give you a credit if $3 per board

4. We have some other films to use besides DaPlus but we have not gotten any long term testing on their disinfectant resistance so they might work and might be no better than the bare surface. We can not guarantee their life span.
